DNA Workshop Series: Living DNA, Borland & My True Ancestry
Registration is open for the 3rd session of the series, Living DNA, Borland & My True Ancestry.
The series continues with 2 more sessions until 20 Nov, either in-person at Williamson Hall or on Zoom. All sessions are FREE for everyone. Read about the series at the DNA Series webpage.
Gary Putnam, BGS Past President, is the Workshop Host. He has been researching families for 63+ years.
The workshops are not lectures, but rather hands-on learning, and the focus is on utilizing DNA websites effectively to advance your genealogical research. Gary will share multiple examples from his DNA accounts at each company in the series.
Living DNA is a newer, UK-based DNA testing site (launched 2017). Borland Genetics Web Tools and Database is not a testing site. You upload your DNA kit(s), view matches with other users, and use other available tools. My True Ancestry is not a testing site. You upload a DNA kit and the site determines which ancient civilizations you match with in the site's database of thousands of ancient DNA samples from real archaeological sites.
Seeing these lesser known sites in action will make this session an interesting morning. In-person participants may bring laptops and use the WiFi in Williamson Hall.
Be ready to ask specific questions or make comments related to your personal DNA research. Zoom participants can ask questions or make comments in Chat.
Gary encourages you to attend even if you have not used the featured sites, since each company has unique features helpful for genealogical research. You may discover new ways to research by learning about these lesser know companies.
If you haven't taken a DNA test yet, you are welcome to attend and learn what the possibilities are. Registration required to receive the Zoom link.
