The Bend Genealogical Society is committed to strengthening genealogical connections across Central Oregon by bringing research support, learning opportunities, and community to areas with limited local resources. Our Outreach Program extends beyond Bend to serve individuals and families who may no longer have access to a local genealogical society or research group.
Through this program, we offer several outreach visits each year designed to reconnect people with genealogical learning, tools, and one another. These gatherings are friendly, beginner-friendly, and welcoming to anyone curious about family history, whether they are just getting started or returning to research after time away.
What to Expect at an Outreach Visit
An easy to follow introduction to genealogy basics
Practical tips for organizing and starting family history research
Guidance on how to find and use records
Information about the Bend Genealogical Society and the resources we provide
Opportunities to ask questions and connect with others interested in family history
Our goal is not only to share research knowledge, but to help rebuild the sense of genealogical community that many family historians value.
Why This Matters
Over the years, several local genealogical groups in Central Oregon have dissolved, leaving many researchers without a nearby community or support network. BGS is stepping forward to help bridge that gap, make genealogical resources more accessible, and encourage connection across the region.
Invite Us to Your Community
We welcome invitations from:
Libraries
Historical and genealogical societies
Senior centers and retirement communities
Schools and educational programs
Community clubs and local organizations
If your group would like a genealogy presentation with time for questions and discussion, we would be glad to work with you. We currently offer outreach visits in Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson counties. Contact Wendi or Kim atinfo@bendgenealogy.org subject:Outreach
Stay Connected
We will post upcoming outreach programs here as they are scheduled. If you are interested in attending, helping host an event, or bringing an outreach visit to your area, we would love to hear from you.
Together, we can keep Central Oregon’s family stories alive and ensure that no researcher has to work alone.
